Hunger Crisis
Our appeal has now closed, but our members are still on the ground delivering humanitarian assistance. Please donate to EAA members using the links below.
Key facts
Our members are still responding with lifesaving aid
Over 14 million people across Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya are already on the verge of starvation—about half of them children. This number will soon rise to 20 million as the rains continue to fail, and food prices continue to rise.
Many Emergency Action Alliance members continue to provide urgent life-saving aid including food, clean water and emergency shelter.

What is the Horn of Africa Hunger Crisis?
The hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa is considered a ‘hidden catastrophe’ of unimaginable proportions. More than 46.3 million people across the region are living in highly food insecure situations and face severe hunger and water shortages. Yet this humanitarian catastrophe receives very little coverage in the world media, and a significant underfunding of lifesaving resources.
Emergency Action Alliance’s Humanitarian Response
In September 2022 Emergency Action Alliance (EAA) launched the Hunger Crisis Appeal for the Horn of Africa. All fifteen of EAA’s members were responding to the emergency through their partners on the ground across the region. They decided to stand together to launch a centralised appeal for the emergency both to raise awareness of the emergency and to raise much needed funds.
On the 23rd of September the Australian Government announced a contribution of $5 million to the Appeal. An additional $88,000 was raised by the Australian public with the support of our media partner ABC.As of April 2023, over 193,500 people have been helped by this appeal through core relief services, treatment of acute malnutrition, access to food, health services, WASH facilities and more.
